A FACEBOOK page which allegedly mocked the Hillsborough football tragedy is being investigated by police.
The page pointed fun at the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans who were crushed to death at the FA Cup semi-final in 1989.
The page went online for a week before being removed by Facebook after complaints.
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that it has received several complaints from members of the public about comments made on Facebook about the Hillsborough tragedy.
“Detectives from the force’s hi-tech crime unit and CID are investigating to see if any offence has been committed and if any potential offenders can be identified.”
A Facebook spokesman confirmed the page had been removed because it violated its statements of rights and responsibilities.
