SPORT is always one of the biggest attractions of thestar.co.uk and that is truer than ever this week.
Sheffield United are in the midst of a bad patch while Sheffield Wednesday are undergoing changes at the top.
Just one look at this week’s most popular stories shows football really has kept everyone gripped this week.
The Owls fans had plenty to say as always on the departure of Alan Irvine and the club’s future in general.
We’ve designed our new website to make it easier to find the stories you want - and you can’t go wrong when it comes to Sheffield’s big teams.
We put the best stories from our news, sport and features sections on the homepage every day.
But you’ll find lots of other content by using the drop down links. Hovering over the top sports tab will show you a menu of all the teams and sports from across South Yorkshire.
So if it is the Blades you are after you can cut straight to the dedicated club section.
The hottest debate this week was always going to be about life at Hillsborough as the hunt began for a new manager.
You can give your thoughts on all the stories of the day adding comments to our online articles.
Everyone has to register with the new website, even if you were registered on the old site, but it only takes a couple of minutes.
Here’s what Wednesday fans had to say:
Handsworth: “Sad to see the departure of yet another manager. Can well understand the reason for getting rid but will the incoming manager be any better? Any manager worth his salt is not all that keen to change clubs, particularly at this stage of the season. For many years I had hoped with each change they would bring in Nigel Pearson, but nothing happened and I cannot see him coming when Hull seem to be on the up. We shall see.”
Flotter: “I thought Gary Megson was a great player for Wednesday, I will never forget the game at Leicester City when the Wednesday side had loads of players out and I think Kenny Brannigan got his only appearance. The whole team played well below par. All except Megson who battled on right to the end. Despite us losing 6-1 (some of us missing our early goal waiting to get in) we were singing ‘Always look on the bright side of life’ even as we left the ground, with the Leicester fans clapping us! I would hate to see memories like that spoiled by any ex player becoming our manager. Also judging by the strong thoughts of the fans from his previous clubs, he has never been liked by the fans as a manager and his style of football is described by them as negative and dull.”
Conga: “Splash the cash MM get the right person, someone who wont let their heart rule their head.”
BobKL: “The reason Irvine was sacked was because the crowd demanded blood. The chairman gives the impression he didn’t want to let him go. The players certainly didn’t want him to be sacked. Looking at the prospective applicants I would say Wednesday are much worse off today than they were 24 hours ago... Who knows, perhaps Nick Clegg will throw his hat in the ring - at least he’s heard of Sheffield...”
Lanzarote owl: “Irvine should have gone weeks ago, the faith MM showed in him was admirable, but onwards and upwards. Let’s see a big name manager with passion coming in to add to the boost MM has given the club. The future’s going to be bright, the future’s blue and white.”
