SHEFFIELD Council says it will take steps to try to recover £250,000 it contributed towards England’s failed 2018 World Cup bid - if allegations of corruption at the sport’s governing body, FIFA, are proven.

It follows a call from opposition Lib Dem leader, Coun Shaffaq Mohammed.

Coun Helen Mirfin-Boukouris, cabinet member responsible, said: “At this moment in time there was no proof of any wrong doing or corruption in the 2018 decision. If this changed, there would be justification for making a claim and we’d take legal advice.”
