Folk concert aims to make a splash for water project in Sierra Leone
SHEFFIELD'S Folk Chorale are to perform a concert of traditional folk music - and it's their intention to bore.
It's not that they hope the performance will be boring... just that they plan to use the proceeds from the concert to help pay for three desperately-needed bore-holes to be dug in Makeni, Sierra Leone.
A spokesperson for the Chorale said the concert was arranged after Sheffield couple Delia and Jonathan Kay, who are spending two years working as volunteers in the African country, wrote to inform friends back home of the desperate situation there.
The spokesperson explained: "Since they have been working and living there they are come to realise the poverty and deprivation of the area.
"In particular, they have been working with three different institutions - a college, which has just become a university, a school for deaf children and a hospital.
"Each of these has a severe shortage of water over about half the year.
"Delia and Jonathan have been working towards drilling three boreholes to produce wells so that they can have water all year round."
The concert will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses, at 7.30pm on Saturday March 6.
Tickets priced 8 are available from Pat Battams, on 0114 2960515, and include drink and nibbles.
