FIREighters came to the rescue of a foal stranded in a canal at Thorne, near Doncaster.

Crews from Thorne were called to Moor Road on Thursday after the RSPCA were alerted to the pony stuck in mud.

The firefighters put a hose reel around the animal’s back legs to pull it from the mud and it was said to be unharmed by the ordeal.

Last week, a similar rescue took place at Mauds Bridge.
