A Sheffield fly-tipper has been told to stump up over £700 after dumping a mattress illegally in woodland.
Brett Beardwell, aged 35, of Nicholson Road, Meersbrook, Sheffield, pleaded not guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court to an offence of depositing waste.
Officers from Sheffield Council’s Environmental Protection Service received a report that he had been seen throwing a mattress from a vehicle on Cat Lane, Heeley. Beardwell denied the offence, but magistrates found him guilty.
He was fined £450 and told to pay costs of £274. He must also pay a £45 victim surcharge.
A Sheffield Council spokesman said: “Fly-tipping is a serious offence and the council will not hesitate to act against those who spoil our city.”
