Flash flooding strikes again - YOUR PICTURES AND VIDEO
ROADS were flooded, cars stranded and homes damaged when torrential downpours hit South Yorkshire again yesterday.
Flash flooding caused problems across the county for the second time in less than a week and one house caught fire after it was struck by lightning during thunderstorms.
In Rotherham a group of people had to be rescued from their car by firefighters after their vehicle became submerged under a bridge on Fitzwilliam Road in Eastwood.
Firefighters from Mexborough station helped the trapped passengers to safety at 12.51pm.
Saxon Road in Woodseats, Sheffield, was flooded.
In Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, fire crews were called out to demolish a chimney stack after it became unsafe when it was struck by lightning at a house on Netherfield Road.
On Chesterfield Road, Heeley, a new embankment built beneath the Lidl supermarket collapsed.
Fire service telephone operators gave flood prevention advice to residents in Wellgate, Broom, East Dene, Wickersley and Aldwarke in Rotherham and in Darnall, Hillsborough and Middlewood in Sheffield.
City trams were stopped temporarily after a car became stuck near the tracks in Hillsborough.
Roads closed in Sheffield included Upwell Street and Middlewood Road between Leppings Lane and Catchbar Lane, the bottom of the Parkway, Abbeydale Road near Dore Road and Owler Lane.
Manhole covers came away in Hangingwater Road, Nether Green, Penistone Road, Granville Road and Saxon Road.
There were also flash floods in Hoyland, Barnsley.
Pat Howell, aged 59, who runs The Sandwich Bar in Leppings Lane Sheffield, said: "It started raining at 11am and by 11.15am it was all coming into the shop.
"I had to shut the shop straightaway. I rang the council early in the morning to try and get some sandbags but being a business you have to go through the official channels to get a number so you can go and collect the sandbags.
"By the time they rang back it was too late."
Pat, whose cellar was flooded last week and who had to close for three months following the floods in 2007, said: "I feel very aggrieved. This happened last Thursday and it was reported to the council last Thursday so why didn't they come out?
"If they had cleared the drains on Thursday this might not have happened.
"I've lost quite a bit of business. People have been ringing up with orders and I've had to turn them away.
"They need to sort out the drainage on Leppings Lane, they can't blame the river like they did last time."
