THE run of unbroken sunshine was brought to a soggy end in Sheffield on Saturday as torrential rain and hailstones left roads impassable.
The astonishing amount of water fell from around 3pm, quickly causing major problems for motorists and businesses.
Traffic was at a standstill on Sheffield Parkway, with drivers unable to move because of floods washing over the road.
And vehicles were forced to move slowly through large puddles on the inner relief road and around the Wicker.
Deluges of rain water also gathered on Penistone Road, Hillsborough, Middlewood and Walkey.
But, bizarrely, other parts of the city remained dry.
Huge hailstones accompanied downpours in some areas, covering the areas in a blanket of white.
But the sun did re-appear later in the afternoon and melted the hailstones.
Some people caught outside when the hailstones came down said they were so heavy and hard they have actually left with bruises on their arms.
One person said the downpour was so torrential that his clothing was so soaked that it ruined his iPhone.
Families enjoying the sunshine in Sheffield parks had to rush for cover when the downpour quickly developed into hailstones.
But the freak weather is unlikely to make a reappearance.
Today is set to enjoy sunny intervals with temperatures reaching a warm 19C.
And tomorrow there are likely to be light showers with temperatures only hitting 10C.
But Wednesday is set to be sunny with temperatures rising to 13C and Thursday will have sunny spells and reach around 11C.
