Fire crews were called out to rescue a female from a vehicle following a road traffic collision in Sheffield.

The collision took place on Ecclesfield Road near Deep Lane in Ecclesfield, at around 10pm last night and involved a Mini Cooper and a Vauxhall Astra.

A stretch of the road was closed while firefighters extricated a female from the Mini Cooper.

Five casualties, three females and two males, from the two vehicles were taken to hospital with possible neck and spinal injuries, which were not thought to be life threatening.

Firefighters believe heavy rain could have been a contributing factor to the incident.
