The first images of the high speed ‘bullet’ trains which could link Sheffield to London in 69 minutes have been unveiled.
The trains will run on the controversial High Speed 2 rail-link between Sheffield and London and could have touch screen computers built into their windows and doors.
The 225mph trains could have smart glass technology which would give passengers up-to-the-minute travel information, let them order food from the buffet car and tell them about any landmarks they are passing.
The designs also suggest the wheels will be covered and gaps between carriages sealed to reduce noise.
If HS2 goes ahead development of a station at Meadowhall will create 5,000 jobs.
This week Lord Deighton, the Treasury Minister who headed the London Olympics organising committee, will be appointed to lead a task force to maximise the economic benefits of HS2.
