THE bid to expand a Doncaster-based cancer care centre into the neighbouring county has got off to a great start.

A donation of more than £10,000 from a charity talent show is the first cheque to be deposited in the bank account of the Bassetlaw Aurora Centre.

Aurora, which has been based in Doncaster for several years, wants to raise £700,000 to set up a similar operation in Worksop.

Bassetlaw District Council recently approved the charity’s proposal to take over the old library building on Memorial Avenue, Worksop.

Campaigners estimate it will take between 18 months and two years to be up and running and will cost over £700,000.

Last week the organisers attended a cheque presentation at The Old Bell hotel in Barnby Moor, which hosted an X Facto-style event for the Aurora charity and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

“We received £10,000 which is our very first cheque – now there is only £690,000 to go!” said a spokesman.
