Firms fined after roof fall

A CONSTRUCTION firm and a roofing company have been fined after a Sheffield worker suffered a broken pelvis, heel and thumb when he fell eight metres to the ground.

The victim, who had to spend several weeks in hospital, was working on the roof of a new retail unit in Lincoln, when the incident happened in May 2011.

A Health and Safety Executive probe found part of the roof had been unprotected in one corner.

Taylor Pearson Construction Limited, of Woodhall Spa, was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,710 while subcontractor Roofwise (Bourne) Limited , of Bourne, was fined £3,000 and told to pay £1,710 in costs.

The firms pleaded guilty at Lincoln Magistrates Court.
