Firefighters helped a couple out of their smoke-filled home after they were trapped inside.

Crews were called to New Street, Darfield, Barnsley, at 2.30am on Sunday after a couple were unable to get out of their smoke-filled home.

Smoke from a fire outside their house had filtered into their property, making it impossible for them to get out.

Firefighters had to break down their door to gain access and to lead them to safety.

They were not seriously injured.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze outside their home is underway.
