FIREFIGHTERS battled for nearly six hours to extinguish a blaze at a boarded- up Sheffield school.

Crews were called to the blaze at the former Seven Hills School on East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, at 5.45pm on Wednesday and found an annex engulfed in flames.

At the height of the blaze there were five fire engines and 25 firefighters at the scene.

Crews managed to prevent flames from the single-story building spreading to the former main school building.

Firefighters said the blaze had been started deliberately and an investigation into the arson attack is now under way.

The disused school has been boarded up since it was closed down last summer.

A new Seven Hills School was opened on Granville Road, Norfolk Park, in September last year.

n Anyone with information about the blaze should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
