Firefighters battle huge blaze on industrial estate
FIRE crews were today battling a huge blaze at an industrial estate in South Yorkshire.
The blaze involved a huge pile of wooden pallets, around 100m by 100m - about the size of a football pitch.
It spread to a nearby trailer.
At its height, flames shot more than 300ft in the air - but crews battled to contain the Doncaster area fire and managed to stop it spreading to industrial units just metres away.
Up to 30 firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze on Lincolnshire Way, Armthorpe, near the Ikea depot, at around 4.30am this morning.
Crews attended from eight fire stations in South Yorkshire, including Doncaster, Thorne and Stocksbridge, as well as a crew from Goole, Humberside.
The fire almost hit electricity pylons carrying 11kv power lines above the site.
Engineers from the National Grid were called to isolate the lines while the crews put out the flames.
There were no injuries and no houses were evacuated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
