Firefighters spent more than nine hours tackling a fierce blaze which wrecked a South Yorkshire factory.

The fire ripped through Shades of Doncaster in Kirk Sandall, severely damaging the roof and interiors.

Residents living nearby were told to stay indoors and keep windows closed as plumes of thick black smoke rose from the building on Sandall Stones Road.

Six fire engines attended the incident, which started at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

There were no casualties and no-one was thought to be working inside the factory at the time.

Investigators returned to the scene yesterday to establish the cause of the fire.

Shades of Doncaster was established in 1984. The firm makes and sells blinds at its premises on the Kirk Sandall Industrial Estate.
