A fire at a disused South Yorkshire school is believed to have been started deliberately.

The blaze at Maltby Hall Infants School in Maltby, Rotherham, was discovered at 9.05pm last night and firefighters spent three hours extinguishing the flames and damping down.

The fire started in the main hall of the former school and crews battled to prevent flames spreading into any other rooms.

They returned to the building his morning but said it was deemed too dangerous to re-enter.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway but it is believed to have been started deliberately.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
