FIRE tore through the roof of a house in Rotherham after breaking out in a bedroom.
More than 20 firefighters were called to the fierce blaze on Mansfield Road, Swallownest, which started at around 7.30pm on Saturday.
The fire began in the first-floor front bedroom, and the cause of the blaze is believed to be accidental.
No-one was in the property at the time of the fire, which severely damaged the top floor, burning through the roof, and leaving thick black marks on the brickwork around the bedroom window.
The room’s interior was destroyed and the burglar melted in the intense heat.
Four crews from Mansfield Road, Darnall and Aston Park fire stations used water, an aerial ladder and breathing equipment to bring the flames under control. The last fire engine left the scene at just before 10.50pm.
Mansfield Road was closed in both directions at the junction of Worksop Road while the fire was put out, and reopened at around 1.15am.
