THE Doncaster woman rescued from her smoke-filled home after fire broke out last week is making progress in hospital.

A spokesman for Doncaster Royal Infirmary said Hazel Bannister was improving, although she remains in the intensive care unit.

Mrs Bannister, aged 75, a retired old people’s warden, had to be revived by firefighters and paramedics after being carried from her bungalow in Hawksley Close, Armthorpe, on April 18.

Investigators believe the fire was started in her living room by discarded smoking materials and she was woken by the smoke. After going to the kitchen to get water she is thought to have collapsed from smoke inhalation.
