PRISON staff turned firefighters when a blaze broke out in a cell at HMP Doncaster yesterday morning.

A cigarette is thought to have started the fire in bedding at the Marshgate jail just before 8.30am. The flames were put out before Doncaster fire crews arrived to check the scene.

There were no injuries to staff or inmates, said a spokesman.
