A new Tesco Express replacing a former Beighton pub is set to open next week.

The new store on High Street, will hand over a cheque of £500 to the Bizzy Bees Family Childcare Centre nursery after it was hit by an alleged arson attack in November 2015.

Staff are set to celebrate the store's launch, next Tuesday by presenting nursery manager Lisa Burgin with the cheque as part of 'Tesco's commitment' to supporting the area.

Store manager Andy Cobban said : “We are delighted to be able to support the Bizzy Bee Family Childcare Centre, as they do such wonderful work for the local community. We are really pleased that Lisa is coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us. My new team and I are looking forward to offering shoppers a bright and spacious new store."

Bosses said they were keen to ensure all vacancies were filled by people living in the Beighton area to bring a 'community feel' to the store.

Store manager Andy added: “I was thrilled by the response we received to our recruitment drive. There were so many great applicants which made the decision very tough when it came to selecting the successful 12.”

The store opens for the first time at 8am.

Elliot Hague, aged 19, denies arson and will stand trial later this month.
