Fire crews tackle series of small blazes

Fire crews in South Yorkshire dealt with a series of blazes overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Firefighters attended a cooker fire in Eldon Street, Sheffield city centre, at 5.55pm on Tuesday.

Next they were called to a shop fire on Staniforth Road, Darnall, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

No-one was injured in the store blaze which started because of an electrical fault at the telephone and computer shop, based in a mid terrace house.

South Yorkshire fire crews were also called to a blaze at a quarry on Sheffield Road at South Anston, at 7.15pm on Tuesday night.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said a diesel tank had caught alight and the flames had spread, setting fire to plant machinery.

A flat fire broke out at Callow Mount, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, at 10.30pm on Tuesday night and crews also dealt with a blazing car in Sicey Avenue, Shiregreen, at 11.20pm.

A pan of food caught alight at a property in Winifred Street, Masbrough, at 6.30pm on Tuesday and was put out by crews from Rotherham and Darnall stations.

Nobody was injured in any of the incidents.
