Fire crews tackle molten glass leak at Barnsley factory

Firefighters have spent the night dealing with molten glass leaking from a furnace in a South Yorkshire factory.

Crews were called to Ardagh Glass, Burton Road, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, at 10.30pm last night after a furnace developed a fault and molten glass started spilling out.

Some of the liquid reached an electrical switch room, which caught fire.

Seven fire engines spent all night at the scene of the blaze.

At the height of the blaze there were 50 firefighyers involved in the operation to stem the leak.
