Fire crews returned to the scene of a blaze at an old brewery site yesterday after smouldering plastic reignited.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Crews have returned to the former Oakwell Brewery site on Pontefract Road several times since the initial fire was put out on September 1.

Six fire engines and a turntable ladder were called to the original fire, which crews battled for about 10 hours.

But several times since, firefighters have had to return to the site to put out plastic which had reignited, despite the use of machinery to move plastic to avoid from setting on fire again.

Crews left the scene at about 3pm yesterday after having put the fire out again.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

An investigation is set to be opened once the fire is confirmed to be completely out.
