Fire crews from Rotherham spent hours last night tackling a blaze at a derelict industrial unit.

The fire, at a building on Meadowhead Road, was reported at 9.30pm.

Crews were joined by other stations to put the fire out, also using an aerial ladder platform.

The cause of the fire will now be investigated.

In a separate incident last night, crews from Aston were called out to help a woman when smoke started to come out of her new car’s glove compartment as she drove it home.

When she stopped the vehicle, a Daihatsu, on Chesterfield Road, Swallownest, flames started to come out of the car.

Crews put out the fire and the driver was unhurt.
