Fly tipping, littering and dog fouling incidents have led to fines of over £55,000 in the last year, according to Doncaster Council bosses.
Between April 1 2014 and March 31 2015, the local authority has dished out over 1,100 fixed penalty notices issued for littering, 4,400 investigations into fly tipping and enforcement action taken against 75 illegally camped caravans and vehicles across the borough.
And dog fouling remains a significant issue for councils across the UK, with 950 complaints in Doncaster in the last year.
Doncaster Council says it is continuing efforts to make the borough a better place to live by clamping down on those who continue blight its local communities.
Council bosses say a number of fixed penalty notices were issued over the same period and in a statement yesterday added combating the problem will continue to be a priority. Officials say they will look to bring in new methods of dealing with the issue to make sure more action is taken again people who fail to clean up after their pets.
Cabinet member for Communities, Councillor Chris McGuinness said: “Confronting environmental issues head on is vital to making Doncaster a better place to live.
“We should be proud of our community and I would urge residents to report such crimes.
“Our continued efforts highlight we are moving in the right direction to tackle environmental crime, through our zero tolerance approach.”
Meanwhile, officials say tackling poorly maintained and unsafe properties also remains high on the agenda.
Figures revealed yesterday stated that officers successfully dealt with 625 complaints, and issued 100 legal notices ordering people to make improvements to the appearance of properties across Doncaster.
Meanwhile, this week the council has introduced a new Selective Licensing Scheme in Hexthorpe, aimed at improving housing conditions and standards in the area.
