AROUND 300 full-time places for 16- to 18-year-olds are still available on some Sheffield College courses starting this month.

Other part time places are open and students who did not do as well as expected in their GCSE exams – as English nationally dipped this year because of controversial grade changes – can also discuss their options.

A spokesman said it was ‘usual’ to have places remaining at this time of year.

More than 6,000 students have been recruited on full time courses.

She added: “There is a message to those who were disappointed with their GCSE results that they should not think there is nothing available.”

Courses with places available include A levels and vocational qualifications in art and design, dental technology and enterprise.

A clearing clinic for 16 to 18-year-olds takes place today between 9am and 11am at college campuses.
