Hundreds of people from across Sheffield will be taking part in The Star Walk tomorrow and you are welcome to join them.
We are now offering the option of registering on the day so as many people as possible can take part in the city’s first major fundraiser for the Women of Steel Statue Appeal.
The fun starts at 10.30am when Activity Sheffield will be leading a warm-up at Hillsborough Sports Arena.
Then at 11am the walk will be started officially by seven of our Women of Steel. The oldest walker so far is 94 and the youngest is just 10 months.
People from all walks of life, including politicians, families, teenagers, pensioners and students, have joined forces for the event.
Lots of businesses have also lent a hand or given donations, the latest being Celebrations Balloons Sheffield who will be adding a decorative touch to the starting gate.
After the one-mile walk around Hillsborough Park is over, there will be a chance to grab some lunch in Hillsborough Arena and enjoy the entertainment.
Hillsborough and Owlerton Local History Group have created a nostalgic display and the scale model of Martin Jennings’ Women of Steel statue will be on display. There will also be face painting and a bouncy castle for children as well as a fire engine and old Volvo police car from the Fire and Police Museum.
Several of the walkers will be taking part in fancy dress.
Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for children.
