Wisewood was lit up with festive cheer at its community Christmas celebration.
Real reindeer and Father Christmas himself were among the guests at the Christmas tree light switch-on event next to Wisewood Sports Centre.
Lord Mayor Peter Rippon switched on the Christmas tree lights with help from deputy council leader and cabinet member for homes and neighbourhoods Coun Harry Harpham.
Coun Harpham said: “It was great.
“The enthusiasm from the community up there was just wonderful.
“It was very cold but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the people up there.
“Everyone was in the mood to get ready for a really nice Christmas, there was a wonderful Christmas tree and I had a really enjoyable time.
“There were plenty of different stalls with different things so hopefully they raised lots of money.”
Father Christmas arrived with his real reindeer shortly after the switch-on event, then crowds of locals bustled around the festive stalls on the hunt for Christmas gifts and treats.
Stannington Silver Training Band played some Yuletide tunes to get everyone in the festive spirit.
n Wisewood Methodist Church on Ben Lane is hosting a local carol sing in the Church Hall tomorrow from 7pm.
