SHEFFIELD University students marked the first anniversary of the vote to treble tuition fees by making a presentation to Hallam MP Nick Clegg.
The students gave the Deputy Prime Minister a giant card mourning the ‘death’ of higher education. signed by over 1,000 undergraduates.
They also placed a wreath outside the Lib Dems’ constituency office in Nether Green.
Mr Clegg bore the brunt of student protest last year when they accused him of treachery after he abandoned a pre-election Lib Dem pledge to scrap tuition fees altogether.
Student union education officer Jon Narcross said: “It has been a year since Lib Dem MPs broke a pledge to vote against increasing tuition fees.”
A Lib Dem spokesman said: “We didn’t win the last election so we aren’t able to do everything we want. What we were able to do is design a system that is effectively a graduate tax.
“Graduates will pay less per month than they did under Labour.”
