ROBIN Hood Airport bosses have defended plans for a road linking the airport with the M18 - despite concerns from countryside watchdogs.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England has hit out at the Government’s decision to award £18 million to Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route scheme in Doncaster.
CPRE South Yorkshire is worried more traffic will increase CO2 emissions and the road scheme will cut through open countryside.
CPRE planning officer John King said: “We really do have grave concerns that it will set a precedent by allowing road building in a countryside policy area.”
An airport spokesman said: “There has been under investment in Yorkshire compared to the South East, in relation to transport schemes. This will bring big benefits for the economy.”
