A CHEQUE for £14,000 is the latest contribution from a Doncaster fashion boutique to the fight against cancer.

John Wakefield, a member of the Thorne committee of Yorkshire Cancer Research, was presented with the sizeable donation for the charity at a special ceremony held at Robinson’s of Bawtry.

The gentlemen’s and ladies’ outfitters, located on South Parade, has now raised more than £200,000 for cancer research with its annual charity fashion shows held at the nearby China Rose restaurant.

The shows have become a popular event on Doncaster’s social calendar every October.

The tradition was started by former proprietor Tony Robinson in memory of his first wife, who died from cancer and have been carried on by the shop’s new owners.

A spokesman said they had every intention of continuing the custom for many years to come.

Doncaster Rovers player George Friend, who is sponsored by Robinson’s, also attended the cheque handover.
