A MUCH-loved secretary at Sheffield Newspapers, who once worked for famous songwriter Mike Batt, has died in hospital.
Maggi Oxley’s loyal service as personal secretary to the managing director spanned 20 years - and five MDs - until her retirement in July 2010.
She was born and grew up in Barnsley, but aged 18 moved to London where she became secretary to Mike Batt - the man who created The Wombles pop act and wrote Bright Eyes.
She later worked in Italy and Switzerland, and for Shell in London in the 1970s, before returning to Sheffield in 1988 to be near family at Greenhill.
In her leisure time Maggi was known for her singing talents as one of a duo in Two Hearts with her brother in law, Martyn.
Friend Julia Greenwood said: “Maggi was full of life. She won hearts and made friendships with her magnetic, vibrant personality.”
Maggi had a rare form of cancer, and died aged 62 at the Northern General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Following a private cremation, a memorial service will be held at Greenhill Methodist Church at 10am on March 11.
