Fans' 24 hour wait for first FA Cup tickets - VIDEO

FA CUP fever swept Barnsley with more than 1,000 fans besieging Oakwell early this morning for semi-final tickets - some queuing for almost 24 hours.

Gary Randle, 26, and Sian Hanson, 17, from Athersley, were first in the queue are arriving at Oakwell at 11.45am yesterday to buy tickets for the match against Cardiff.

They brought with them a six-man tent which they erected in the car park - but they didn't get a wink of sleep.

"We've been singing and drinking and eating kebab and chips which we had delivered at 2am this morning," said Adrian Wilson, 25, who was queuing with Gary and Sian.

And at 4am this morning, 44 fans even played a game of 22-a-side football in the car park as they queued for tickets.

Alan Richardson, 54, from Barnsley, son of the late Emmerdale actor Stan Richards, was also in queue.

He said: "It's important not only to get the best seats as a fan but also because we're taking some bairns with us so we need to make sure we get good seats so they can see easily.

"We're all hoping Barnsley make it to the final - so we can all queue again.

"We waited almost 100 years for Barnsley to get to a FA Cup semi-final so it's worth staying up all night to make sure we get the best tickets to make it a memorable occasion."

Jane Utley, for Worsbrough, who started queuing at 6pm yesterday, said she went to see Barnsley play Ipswich at the old Wembley and nothing in the world would have stopped her visiting the new stadium.

Stewards were forced to close Oakwell car park because it was full and fans had to park on surrounding streets.

The Star has come to the aid of Barnsley fans by providing much needed extra transport for the FA Cup semi final clash, click here for details.
