Sheffield Wednesday fans are being urged to take part in a minute’s applause for a terminally ill grandfather.

Graham Compton, aged 53, from Jordanthorpe, has been given only weeks to live after being diagnosed with prostate cancer and an incurable brain tumour.

An appeal has been made online for Owls supporters to applaud Graham on the 53rd minute of Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Bristol City on August 8.

Graham’s brother-in-law, John Towers, said: “We came up with the idea of a minute’s applause on the 53rd minute - Graham’s age- to show how special Graham is to his family.

“We had an unbelievable response, mainly from Wednesday fans, but also a lot from Sheffield United, Leeds and others.”
