G’Day and welcome to New York.
Rotherham United’s new stadium is bonzer, mate – according to a lifelong Miller now living in Australia.
Derek Parker and his wife Lorna completed the 9,000- mile trip from their home in Perth to Rotherham to see friends and family and while back in town they checked on the progress of the club’s New York Stadium, set for completion this month.
The ex-pat couple, originally from Greasbrough and former pupils of Kimberworth Comprehensive, were talked through the ground’s facilities, including the 1925 Club, on an exclusive site tour.
Derek said: “I had seen photographs of the New York Stadium but to see inside it in person was incredible.
“It looks absolutely amazing and in my opinion the finished article will be just as good as the Melbourne Cricket Ground.”
Derek has followed Rotherham since the 1960s but went over to Western Australia in 1991 to work in the mining resources industry.
Lorna, who once served refreshments on the concourse at the Millers’ old home of Millmoor, said: “I was really impressed. The 1925 Club facilities are excellent.”
Mark Willis from Rotherham United’s corporate sales team, who accompanied the Parkers on their tour, said: “It was a joy to see the excitement on Derek and Lorna’s faces and show them how the club’s dream of a state-of-the-art stadium is becoming a reality.”
Site tours are now available for those interested in the 1925 Club, which will provide members with VIP dining, bar and lounge facilities.
