Fancy dress girls raise £7,770 for hospital
FANCY dress fundraisiers have handed over a cheque for £6,770 to Sheffield's Hallamshire Hospital.
The three women raised the cash for breast cancer research through a fancy-dress disco that included characters such as Little Bo Peep and Homer Simpson.
Barbara France, Michelle France and Sharon Beresford - all sister-in laws from Sothall and Waterthorpe - started raising money for the cause after Michelle was diagnosed with the disease 10 years ago.
The following year, Sharon also discovered that she had breast cancer.
Since then, the three women have organised an annual charity event for more than 800 people to raise money for Hallamshire Hospital's breast cancer research, which is led by specialist Prof Malcolm Reed.
"The fancy dress charity do is the culmination of about six months' preparation and organisation. All the tickets are sold by word of mouth - we don't advertise anything," said Barbara, aged 53.
Sheffield Hallam University provided a function room free of charge and the DJ also volunteered his skills without pay. As a result, every penny of the 5 ticket was donated to breast cancer research at the Hallamshire, where Michelle and Sharon received care.
