A Sheffield mother was inspired to lose weight after her specially made plus-size fancy dress outfit split at a party.
Poor eating habits and excessive drinking resulted in Libby Woodhouse, from Intake, piling on the pounds.
At her heaviest, the 39-year-old tipped the scales at around 21 stone.
The final straw came when she saw herself in photographs at a friend’s party showing her ’70s fancy dress costume had split.
The super-slimmer overhauled her eating habits and has now lost six stone in two years.
Libby, who works for Rotherham Council, said: “It was a ’70s party and I had to have an Abba style costume specially made as the ones in shops didn’t fit.
“When I saw photographs I noticed it had split. The experience was horrible, really awful.
“The fancy dress party was the tipping point of a combination of lots of things. My husband had been out of work and we were getting to breaking point.
“We were stressed because he hadn’t been working and we were consoling ourselves with food and alcohol.
“We knew we had to change our lifestyle.
“My husband is a chef so you think our eating habits would have been healthy but they weren’t.
“The weight loss has also improved our mental health. We were on the edge of becoming alcoholics and were getting into a rut.
“We were drinking alcohol and eating takeaways, and then the next day we would feel hungover so would eat more.”
The mother-of-one signed up to a Slimming World club in Dinnington and lost five stone in the first year, and went on to lose a further stone over the next 12 months.
Together Libby and husband Jamie, aged 39, have lost an impressive 10 stone.
Libby said: “Being a chef, Jamie tries to adapt our favourite foods to Slimming World recipes, so we still have takeaways, just healthy ones.”
Libby has new-found confidence and has taken another step forward by training as a Slimming World consultant and taking over at the Dinnington club.
