A beloved family dog has gone missing after stormy weather hit Sheffield at the weekend.

Owner Angela Bennett, aged 50, from Killamarsh, described her dog as ‘a member of the family’.

Twenty-month-old female beagle Mattie was taken for a walk by Angela’s two daughters, aged 18 and 10, on Saturday in Rother Valley.

Mattie, who was off her lead, ran away at 5.30pm when thunder and lightning struck.

Angela said: “The kids are distraught.”

The dog is thought to have run along the A57 – and Angela said she could run up to 10 miles before she stops.

The tri-colour canine has a red collar with a phone number on the silver tag and is electronically tagged.

Angela has handed out leaflets and has even had people offer to use tracker dogs to find Mattie.

She has had more than 10,000 people share her Facebook message which read: “Mattie ran away from us at Rother Valley yesterday during the thunder storm.

“We have searched and searched for her, but can’t find her.

“Nobody has even seen her. Can you please help us by sharing this?”
