RECORDINGS of bed time stories are being broadcast on a South Yorkshire community radio station for families to enjoy.

Barnsley Children’s Library Services have been working in partnership with Penistone FM Community Radio, which broadcasts on 95.7 FM, to record the tales.

They go out on the air from just before 7pm each evening this week for half term.

The stories are read by people who live or work locally, including Steve Webber, the Mayor of Penistone, Bob Williams, of Barnsley Council, Father David from St John’s Parish Church, Paul Bridges, a Methodist lay preacher, and Val Brewer from Penistone and District Community Partnership.

Wendy Lowder, of Barnsley library services, said: “We want to encourage families to stop and take five minutes time out to discover the sheer joy and pleasure of stories read aloud.

“All the stories used, and many more, are available from Barnsley libraries and cuddling up with a book is a great way to end a busy day, especially as part of a bedtime routine.”
