Fair Point: Message of hope from Ohio rescue

Have your say

After 10 years in captivity, three young women escape to freedom in Ohio.

We reel in disbelief at what evil some are capable of and how a community can be blind to what goes on in its midst, and joy that a nightmare has ended for three families.

We realise, too, that the parents of more than 200,000 children and teenagers who go missing in Britain every year, are not deluded for keeping the eternal flame of optimism burning.

That people like Kerry Needham, whose son Ben vanished on Kos 22 years ago, Kate and Gerry McCann, who have never given up on Madeleine, 10 this Sunday, and Doncaster parents Glenys and Kevin Gosden, whose 12-year-old son Andrew was last seen at Kings Cross station in 2007, are only doing what we would do.
