Extra time to claim The Star's Community Cash Giveaway

COMMUNITY groups in South Yorkshire have another chance to get hold of up to £5,000 as The Star's Community Cash Giveaway is reopened for applications.

With the South Yorkshire Community Foundation The Star is giving away 30,000 to groups rooted in the community who need a bit of extra cash .

Applications flew in when the scheme was opened this summer, but the calibre of entries was so high the powers that be pushed back the deadline to give groups another bite at the cherry.

Pauline Grice, SYCF's chief executive, said: "The panel members were so enthused by the applications received through the Star Community Cash Giveaway Campaign they wanted to see more of this type of inspirational project, so we are really pleased to announce that we have reopened the campaign until August 12.

"We know there are voluntary and community groups who may have missed the first deadline in June and now they have the chance of getting their hands on this money."

Over the last two months The Star has featured a range of exciting projects that have bene?ted from the SYCF's help.

An OAP lunch club in Waterthorpe bought a Nintendo Wii. Scouts in Kiveton got lifejackets for an expedition in Scotland. A community action group in Broomhill mounted their ?rst food fair.
