Extra refuse crews will be working in Sheffield this weekend to clear the backlog of bins left uncollected due to heavy snow and ice.
Thousands of collections were missed across the city after the big freeze last weekend caused treacherous conditions on the roads.
Some of those due to be picked up on Saturday December 27 and Tuesday December 30 are still full.
Schedules had already been changed to accommodate Christmas and now crews are battling to catch up.
All black bin and blue bin collections that are due to take place today will go ahead ‘where access allows’ and it is safe, council contractor Veolia said.
Over the next few days crews are revisiting all areas to make sure those outstanding are completed as soon as possible.
A Veolia spokesman said: “We are working towards collecting missed bins as speedily as we can each day.
“Extra crews will be working over the weekend to ensure both black bins and blue bins or boxes are emptied as soon as possible. “Where safe to do so, residents are advised to leave their bin or box out until they have been emptied.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.”
