Extra police patrols are being carried out in Rotherham following an increase in vehicle crime.

Thefts from cars and vans have been reported in Rawmarsh, Manor Farm, Upper Haugh and Wath this week, with windows smashed and doors levered open to gain entry.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Valuables such as laptops, phones, money, tools and sat-navs to mention a few have been stolen

"We are working hard to prevent and detect, with extra patrols in these localities, but there are some steps that vehicle owners can take to protect themselves.
"Is your vehicle locked and secured? Is your vehicle fitted with an alarm or immobiliser?
"Lock your vehicle with the key, not just the fob,
"Remove any valuables from the vehicle
"Remove any sat nav holders from windows."

Any with information on those responsible for the thefts and handling stolen goods should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
