Extra police officers will be on duty at today’s football derby between Sheffield United and Barnsley FC.
The game is expected to attract more than 20,000 supporters.
Barriers will be put up around the ground and there will be a strong police presence around Bramall Lane and in Sheffield city centre.
Superintendent Scott Green said: “We are planning for a safe, enjoyable event for everyone attending.
“This is the first time the teams have met in the league for a few seasons and we are expecting a great atmosphere.
“I will ensure we provide a welcoming environment for fans and enjoy the game and endeavour that there is as little disruption as possible for people conducting their daily business in the city centre.”
