Extra funding to pay for the resettlement of refugees in Sheffield will be provided by the Government.
Currently the Home Office already covers related costs for up to 12 months.
But Sheffield Council leader Julie Dore told a full council meeting that it had now agreed to provide ‘additional funding’ to cover costs in future years which was a ‘major step forward.’
She was responding to a 300-strong petition calling for Sheffield to do more to welcome refugees. The council agreed to resettle another 10 to 15 Syrian families as part of the global crisis.
