Expedition milestone
DRONFIELD adventurer Andrew Ledger and three descendants of Sir Ernest Shackleton today reached the spot where their forebears abandoned an attempt on the South Pole 100 years ago.
The adventurers made it to the point, just 97 miles from the Pole, where Shackleton was forced to turn back on January 9, 1909. Now they hope to make the Pole.
Andrew, aged 23, won his place on the expedition in a competition.
