A JEALOUS ex-wife flew into a rage and wrecked a car belonging to a woman who was visiting her estranged husband on New Year’s Day, a court heard.
Ben Calpin was at home with Alannah Hill when his ex-wife Rachel turned up, scratched a key down the sides of Ms Hill’s Audi A3, and hurled a plant pot through its windscreen.
Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard Calpin, aged 32, phoned her ex-husband asking whose car was parked outside - and he told her it was none of her business.
Bill Taylor, prosecuting, said: “Within a minute or so, she was banging on his front door, saying, ‘Get her out of my house’ and, ‘Wait till I get hold of her’.
“She was in extreme anger, and she picked up a plant pot and smashed it through the windscreen of an Audi A3.
“She had a key and went down both sides of the car, damaging all the panels.”
Damage was estimated at £3,156. Calpin, of Coach Road, Ashover, admitted damaging property at Morton, and was ordered to pay £1,500 compensation to Ms Hill.
Joe Harvey, mitigating, said the couple had been together for 11 years and married for five, but separated last April. He said: “They have a young son and discussed getting back together for everyone’s sake. But when she drove past the matrimonial home she saw the car outside. She saw the red mist.”
