A FORMER litter picker has been fined £75 for dropping a cellophane wrapper in Barnsley town centre.
Robert Osbourn, aged 21, of Crosby Court, Monk Bretton, pleaded guilty to littering after he was taken to court for failing to pay an £75 fixed penalty notice he was initially issued with.
To begin with, he denied the offence, claiming he had not intentionally dropped any litter, and that he thought he was being victimised by a former manager at the council following an argument.
But Osbourn later changed his plea and was given the fine as well as a £100 court costs bill.
Coun Roy Miller, of Barnsley Council, said: “This case sends out a clear message to those who get fined for littering.”
