a TOTAL of 61 balloons are to be released in Rotherham today to represent the number of children waiting to be adopted in the town.
Rotherham Council’s adoption team will be joined by the town’s Mayor – Councillor Shaun Wright – and adoptive parents to release the balloons at noon.
Coun Paul Lakin, cabinet member for safeguarding children and adults, said: “We already have many people who have stepped forward to become adoptive parents in Rotherham and helped our children.
“However, there are more children out there who need the help and support that a caring environment brings.
“There is support available to help guide people through the process so we would urge anyone thinking about adoption to get in touch and find out more.”
The team is hosting drop-in sessions at Clifton Park Museum, on Tuesday, November 15 between 10am and noon and 4pm and 6pm.
Alternatively call 01709 382121 and ask for the adoption team duty officer.
